Cammi Granato ’93 Amy Rudolph ’95

Homecoming Weekend 2008 will feature a very special event on Saturday, February 16, when 14 former Friar athletes and coaches will be inducted into the Providence College Athletic Hall of Fame. At the same time, special recognition will be given to seven PC alumnae of the 1998 U.S. Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey Team, which won the Gold Medal in the first Olympic competition in the sport.

The induction program will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Hilton Providence hotel in Downtown Providence. Tickets are $50 per person, which includes a sit-down dinner and a program.

The inductees and the 1998 Olympians will also be recognized earlier that day at halftime of the Friars’ men’s basketball game versus the Louisville Cardinals at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. The game starts at 2:00 p.m.

“All of us in the College Community are extremely excited to be able to honor former great student-athletes and coaches, and to bring them back home and give them a special place within the Providence College community,” said Steve Napolillo ’98, associate athletic director for the Friars Forever Athletic Fund, who is coordinating the induction program.

Selected to be inducted into the Hall of Fame are: Mark Carroll ’95 (cross country/track), Andy Keith ’94 (cross country/track), Tina Moloney ’89 (cross country/track), Amy Rudolph ’95 (cross country/track), Ed Monahan ’56 (men’s ice hockey), Michael Smith ’94 (men’s basketball), Seamus Purcell ’89 (men’s soccer), Lou Merloni ’93 (baseball), Alex Nahigian (baseball coach), Cathy Guden ’93 (field hockey), Cammi Granato ’93 (women’s ice hockey), Mary Burke ’87 (women’s basketball), Britt King ’86 (women’s basketball), and John Marchetti ’71 (women’s ice hockey coach, men’s ice hockey player).

The seven PC players on the 1998 U.S. Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey Team who will be recognized on the 10th anniversary of the team’s Gold Medal performance are: Chris Bailey ’94, Laurie Baker ’00, Alana Blahoski ’96, Sara DeCosta ’00, Cammi Granato ’93, Lisa Brown-Miller ’88, and Vicki Movsessian ’94.
