Sports action, Hall of Fame induction to highlight Homecoming Weekend 2008

Friday through Sunday, February 15-17, promises to be a memorable Homecoming Weekend 2008 at the College, complete with four Friars’ home sporting events, tours of the stunning new Concannon Fitness Center, admission and academic programs, an a cappella  concert, and numerous opportunities to reconnect and spend time with classmates.

Sports fans will have plenty to cheer about as both the men’s and women’s basketball and ice hockey teams are playing at home that weekend:

• Friday, 7:00 p.m., Schneider Arena, men’s hockey, PC vs. New Hampshire
• Saturday, noon, Alumni Hall, women’s basketball, PC vs. St. John’s
• Saturday, 2:00 p.m., Dunkin’ Donuts Center, men’s basketball, PC vs. Louisville
• Sunday, 2:00 p.m., Schneider Arena, women’s hockey, PC vs. Northeastern

A highlight of Homecoming Weekend will be the induction of 14 athletes and coaches into the PC Athletic Hall of Fame. The program at the Hilton Providence hotel will include special recognition of seven PC alumnae who were members of the 1998 Gold Medal-winning U.S. Women’s Olympic Ice Hockey Team.

In keeping with the theme of physical activity, take time out to explore the Concannon Fitness Center, which opened in September. Enjoy guided tours of the facility and stop by our hospitality area for healthy snacks and refreshments Friday night and Saturday.

Make a point during your weekend to meet with Christopher P. Lydon ’83, associate vice president for admission and enrollment planning, who will offer insight into the College’s admissions procedures and other important admissions information. Lydon will be in the Feinstein Academic Center, Room 400, at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.

No Homecoming Weekend would be complete without plentiful opportunities to spend time socially with classmates. There are kick-off parties on Friday, brunches on Saturday and Sunday, and even a special A Cappella Club Concert on Saturday night. On Sunday at 11:00 a.m., College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. ’80 will be the principal celebrant and homilist at Mass in St. Dominic Chapel.

Homecoming Weekend 2008 promises to be an exciting and rewarding experience for alumni and will include a variety of social, athletic, academic, entertainment, and religious opportunities.
