Homecoming 2006: Three days of fun, fellowship

Homecoming Weekend 2006 is fast approaching—it takes place on January 20-22—and the lineup of activities includes parties, sports events, and faculty presentations.

Events commence at the Providence Biltmore Hotel on Friday, January 20, at 7:00 p.m. when “Cabernet Cabaret: An Evening of Wine Tasting, Friends, & Auctions” will feature wines from Italy, Argentina, Australia, and California, plus a silent auction. Tickets are $50 per person and all proceeds will benefit the Dominican Scholarship Fund.

On Friday at 9:00 p.m., there will be “Young Alumni Homecoming Kick-Off Parties” at  RíRá Irish Pub ($5 cover charge) and McFadden’s Saloon, both in Providence.

On Saturday, in Albertus Magnus Hall 106 on campus, faculty members will present two free talks—the first at noon on “The Future of Employer-Sponsored Health Insurance” and the second at 1:00 p.m. on “Energy and Politics: How the Rise in Energy Prices Has Affected the Public Sector.”

Later, at 2:00 p.m. at Schneider Arena on campus, the Friars’ women’s ice hockey team will meet Northeastern University in a Women’s HOCKEY EAST contest. There is no admission charge.

A pre-game reception and a men’s basketball game also are on tap Saturday. The reception, which will feature a buffet dinner and a cash bar, runs from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Westin Hotel–Providence. Tickets to the event are $30 per person. At 7:30 p.m. at the nearby Dunkin’ Donuts Center, PC will meet DePaul in a BIG EAST basketball game. Game tickets are $15 per person.

On Sunday, Mass will be celebrated in St. Dominic Chapel on campus at 11:00 a.m. A homecoming brunch will be served in Raymond Dining Hall from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with tickets costing $7 per person. To wrap up the weekend, the Greater Providence Alumni Chapter of the Alumni Association, known as the Mal Brown Club, will host a skating party on the rink at the Bank of America City Center in Downtown Providence from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. There is no charge for admission. Skate rentals will be available.

Requests for tickets to Homecoming Weekend events must be received by January 9, 2006. For additional details, click here or call the Office of Institutional Advancement at (401) 865-2407.
