Graduating seniors who are the sons and daughters of Providence College alumni, faculty, and staff were welcomed into the alumni association at a festive celebration known as the Legacy Brunch during Commencement Weekend.
Sponsored by the Office of Institutional Advancement (OIA), the brunch was held on May 19 in Slavin Center ’64 Hall and was attended by 185 people—including 40 of the 65 legacy students graduating from PC this year. The students enjoyed a champagne brunch and received gifts, including books about life after college.
Most important, the graduates received the good wishes and the sage advice of many alumni who preceded them. Among those who addressed them were College President Rev. Brian J. Shanley, O.P. ’80; Kathleen A. Ryan, Esq. ’87, president of PC’s Alumni Association; Robert Ferreira ’83, assistant vice president for alumni relations in the OIA; Jonathan DeFusco ’03, program officer for alumni relations in the OIA; and Rev. John S. Peterson, O.P. ’57, national alumni chaplain.
“Today, we are all members of the Providence College family,” said Father Shanley, “and I thank each and every one of you for continuing to support what we do here in making PC a special place in our lives. It is my hope that many of our graduating seniors will be returning with their sons and daughters in the future as we continue the exceptional legacy here at Providence College.”
In her remarks, Ryan congratulated the graduates on their success at PC and welcomed them into the alumni association.
DeFusco told the graduates: “You are lifelong members of the PC family. Stay in touch. We hope to see you at a variety of the alumni events that are held over the course of the year.”
