Donor generosity has immediate impact on students’ lives

Robert Ferreira ’83, assistant vice president for alumni relations in the Office of Institutional Advancement, right, chats at the President’s Circle reception with Christine F. and Stephen F. Sypek ’84, the president of the College’s Boston Area Alumni Club and a member of PC’s Boston President’s Council.
When a reception was held on April 14 in Phillips Memorial Library to acknowledge and thank some of PC’s most generous donors—members of the President’s Circle who have made gifts of $1,000 or more—few people present were more grateful for their generosity than Katherine Hogan ’09 of Warwick, R.I.

The biology major, who hopes to one day become a doctor, is a recipient of some of the funds donated by President’s Circle members.

“Not only do donors allow me the opportunity of coming to PC,” said Hogan, “but they also help to provide me with a wonderful education and a great on-campus experience.”

As part of her work-study program at PC, Hogan works in the Office of Institutional Advancement writing thank-you letters to donors.

College Executive Vice President and Treasurer Rev. Kenneth R. Sicard, O.P. ’78 & ’82G joins Philip E. Jones ’64, co-chair of the Annual Fund.
David C. Wegrzyn, vice president for institutional advancement, announced at the reception that more than 800 people had given to PC at the President’s Circle level. He said that, collectively, President’s Circle donors have contributed more than $5.75 million this year. These gifts, he said, have been used for many causes, including the Annual Fund, scholarships, athletics, and reunion classes.

Wegrzyn also acknowledged members of the Annual Fund Committee who were present, including Philip E. Jones ’64, one of the fund’s co-chairs.

“There has been a tremendous cooperative effort put forward by all concerned to make this year very successful,” said Jones, who is president and CEO of UltraFine Powders and Technology, Inc. of Woonsocket, R.I.
