AOC: cyber gateway to alumni connections

The Alumni Online Community (AOC) on the College’s alumni Web site is a digital portal that allows alumni to sign up for a free PC e-mail forwarding account, search a directory of alumni, read information about alumni news and events, and more.

The free e-mail account has two key benefits, according to Hayri Izgi, assistant director of operations in the Office of Institutional Advancement, which manages the AOC.

“The PC e-mail addresses are a great way for alumni to show an affiliation to Providence College and their institutional loyalty,” said Izgi. “Plus, they can give this e-mail address out without giving their main e-mail address to anyone, so this affords them more privacy.”

If a PC e-mail address provides some digital privacy, just about every other aspect of the AOC is designed to directly connect alumni with fellow alums—including prospective employers. Through the “Alumni Career Center,” alumni employers can post available jobs and alumni who are looking for employment can post resumés.

The AOC directory contains records of more than 41,000 active alumni, as well as records of alumni who are “lost” (i.e., with no current address listed) or deceased. Currently, more than 11,000 alumni are registered users of the community.

Alumni can view a listing of what’s happening at the College on the main AOC page, which has a link to a more detailed calendar of events.

To register on AOC, visit www.providence.edu, click on “Alumni,” and then click on “Alumni Online Community.” After selecting the registration link, search for your individual record on the Web site under your last name or class year, and enter the last four digits of your Social Security number to verify you are a PC alumnus/a. Finally, you just need to select a username and password, accept the terms of the user agreement, and you are a member of the Alumni Online Community. Welcome aboard!
