Wine tasting and auction to benefit students with financial need

Mark U. Gasbarro ’97, left, and Charles M. Borkoski ’71 are the chairs of this year's Cabernet Cabaret.
Building upon the success of the inaugural Cabernet Cabaret last year, this year’s wine tasting and auction benefit will take place on Friday, April 13, at 7:00 p.m. at the Roger Williams Park Casino in Providence.

Proceeds will benefit the Dominican Scholarship Fund, which supports PC students with financial need and academic merit. Last year’s inaugural Cabernet Cabaret raised more than $7,000.

PC alumni, parents, and friends are invited to the event, which will feature wines from around the world— Argentina, Australia, France, Italy, Spain, and the United States. Co-chairs for Cabernet Cabaret are Charles M. Borkoski ’71, immediate past president of the PC Alumni Association, and Mark U. Gasbarro ’97.

“We’ve chosen 50 wines from leading vineyards, wines that you don’t commonly see featured at tastings,” said Gasbarro, who co-founded the event last year with Michael Woody ’77 and who is the fourth generation of his family to own and operate Gasbarro’s Wines on Federal Hill in Providence. The evening also will feature hors d’oeuvres donated by Pane e Vino, located on Federal Hill.

“This is going to be a great evening benefiting a great cause—scholarships for PC students. We invite you to come and bring your friends,” said Borkoski, who added that silent auction items may be donated through the end of March.

Tickets are $75 per person—$50 for young alumni from the classes of 1997 through 2006. For more information and registration, check out the Alumni Calendar of Events.
